10 Great Savings Categories For September

One method that works for living a frugal life is to buy products when they naturally go on sale. We understand how that works with produce in the grocery store. If fruits and vegetables are in season, they bring a lower price. The prices are usually higher in the winter. The same principle applies in goods for our homes. To get the best deals on things you buy, it’s helpful to find out when they’re cheapest.
In the month of September children go back to school and people are indoors more often. Summer vacations are over and so the items that go lower in price are the items we should purchase. The thinking is that if you do this every month, a lot of money can be saved.
Let’s look at some great categories to save on in the month of September:

Patio Furniture
I’ve had the same patio chairs for at least 10 years. I sometimes change the cushions. If they get worn out, stained or torn, September can be a great time to get them cheap. As soon as the patio furniture sales start, it’s good to hurry to your local store, because accessories sell out fast.
If this is the year to upgrade to a nicer patio set, start shopping for the best deals early. I’ve seen some wonderful discounts at the big box stores and even online.
Mattresses
Good quality mattresses are very important for the health and wellbeing of your back. They can also make a huge difference in the quality of your sleep. Mattress sales in September are well-known and there are so many different types of stores that sell them. Big box stores, furniture stores, online companies, and even department stores carry mattresses. With all the September mattress sales it’s possible to get a much better quality set than you thought possible.

Cars
Talk about big purchases, a car is one of the biggest. Buying a new car is such a huge decision! New model cars come out this month. But, car dealerships still have cars left from the current year. They really need to sell the older models. This means that the buyer has the ability to get a great deal. For those who negotiate, the deals can get even hotter.
Grills
Would you love to get a grill for cooking out? Are you tired of your old charcoal grill and want an upgrade? Stores are wanting to sell grills. They take up much too much room to store them, so the sales in September are great!
Lawn Mowers
Just like grills, lawn mowers take up too much room to store over the winter. No one wants a lawn mower in the cold months, so this is the month to get a good sale price on a lawn mower. When your old lawn mower is puttering, it’s time to get to your nearest Lowes or Home Depot. Check out all the sales. Then, you’ll be ready next spring when the grass starts growing.
Summer Clothing
Fall fashion has arrived in all the stores, and the summer things have got to go. Check the sales racks in department stores, and you’ll find huge deals! It’s the time of year to save 50-75% on clothing for you and your family. I’ve saved up to 90% on some very good deals! If you don’t feel like searching through the racks, the online sales are just as wonderful!

Televisions
If you want a huge television, it’s best to wait until Black Friday sales. But, the smaller televisions are on sale in September. This is because retailers want to get their share of the college students buying spree. New apartments and even dorm rooms are new locations that need televisions.
Vacation Deals
The peak vacation season is over, and the prices are coming down. If you can travel in the off-season, travel expenses are much lower. Airline tickets, cruise deals, hotels, and more can be purchased at a lower price than in the summer months.
Plants
All of those plants at your local nursery will soon be worthless. If you are looking for perennials, September is a great month to make a purchase. If you don’t live in a very cold climate, it’s a good time to plant them in your bed or garden. Often, they are so cheap, that it’s worth the risk to make a purchase now.
School Supplies
School supplies are still really cheap this month. Supplies that are used for school, college, and even home offices are on sale. Check your ads for the best prices on these items. Are you doing online learning or working from home? This is the perfect month to get items that you’ve been needing, such as: calculators, paper, and furniture.
Good luck with finding the best deals that will help your family live on less. Hopefully, the amount saved can be used on something important to you. It’s also great to add the money saved to an emergency fund or college fund. Happy shopping.
