Do you consider yourself a Super Grandparent? I really hope that I will be thought of as a Super Grandparent. To me, a super grandparent is someone who wants the best for their grandchild. The best doesn’t have to be something that is expensive or super time consuming. Super Grandparents are looking for a Christmas gift that a child will use more than once. A super gift is one that brings fun but also lasting impact.
When children are little an interest can blossom into a passion. You wouldn’t think so, but a 4-year old can become passionate or obsessed with a topic that they want to learn everything about. My 4 year old boy was obsessed with Blue’s Clues. He really felt like Blue’s Clues was real and he carried around his handy-dandy notebook, looking for clues. When children love a certain thing, parents and Super Grandparents can take that idea and run with it.
It’s so much fun to take an interest of a child and use that to build greater understanding of the topic. We did that when we were homeschooling and it was fun and very educational to the entire family. Our daughter loved the stars and so I introduced her to constellations. She loved it and took her maps of the stars outside and we looked for Orion and the other shapes.
Learning about basic shapes is a perfect introduction to geometry that will help children when they start school.
