Mac ‘n’ cheese is a staple for many families. It’s a delicious meal in itself. And if you know what you’re doing, you can make pasta nutritious, too.
Regular mac ‘n’ cheese uses white pasta and doesn’t include any vegetables. However, if you want to improve the nutritional content for your family at a low cost, just chop some broccoli and add it to the bake. Also, use brown macaroni, too, as this contains all sorts of B-vitamins, fiber, and minerals you don’t get in the refined white stuff. It’s not cheap, but if you wanted to make a cashew cheese sauce using cashews, lemon juice, salt, and nutritional yeast, you could. This improves the nutritional value even further and effectively transforms junk food into something healthy for everyone.
Fresh Dough Pizza
Take-out and store-bought pizzas are expensive. However, making your own hardly costs anything. All you need is some cheese that will melt, a bag of flour, and some passata (plus any toppings you have lying around in your pantry). When you make pizza yourself, you have more control over the nutritional content. For instance, making pizza bases with brown flour and adding veggies as toppings can help transform it into a healthy meal.
Eggs And Tomatoes
Despite inflation elsewhere in the food supply, breakfast staples, eggs and tomatoes remain incredibly cheap. Putting together eggs over hard with grilled beef tomato slices is the perfect light breakfast for all the family.
Sweet Potato And Black Bean Chili
Sweet potato and black bean chili is an inexpensive treat that everyone will love. Plus, it’s super healthy too, thanks to all the fiber and polyphenols from the beans, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes. Adding regular chili powder will give the dish that classic Mexican taste. However, if you want it to taste even more delicious, try adding smoked chipotle chili to the dish and serve it with cornbread and coleslaw (both of which are super cheap in their own right).
Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joes
Regular steak is expensive. But if you use mince or other cheaper cuts, then you can bring the cost down tremendously.
To make Philly steak sloppy joes, cook the beef in a pan with some species and perhaps a few vegetables. Then open up some submarine buns and place the mix in the fold. Add some grated cheese and place under the grill until it melts. Then serve with sauces of your choice. If you want to make it take-out style, serve it on the baking sheet you cook it on.
