7 Ways to Save Money that your Grandmother Didn’t Have We always hear the stories from our grandmothers and great-grandmothers about the old days. Those women who lived through the Great Depression knew how to live a frugal life. They seemed to know how to do many things and were able to make do with what they had. Learning from them is so important during hard times. But, there are also many modern ways that we can use to save money that grandmother never had. Using modern techniques for saving money, we can help our families live on less without doing without. Technology can be expensive, but we can also use it for our benefit, not only in business, but in saving. Your grandmother may have saved her money in an old coffee can. This is actually a good way to save loose change, because it will add up. But, taking a bigger step to save money can be accomplished with savings plans that also save you time. Automatic Savings Banks and savings apps, such as Chime allow users to transfer money into savings. It can be set up as an automatic transfer. Some ways that this happens is with rounding up the amount of your purchase and adding it to your savings account. Some apps work with your goals, too. Check with your bank to see about automatic savings plans. Make sure you find one with no added fees. Pay Bills Online Don’t deal with all the paper, checks, and stamps. Sign up to get paper-less billing and then pay your bills online through your bank website. You’ll be free from all the paper to keep track of, save on check costs, and save on the price of stamps. Credit Card Rewards We all need a credit card. You can save money with credit cards if you find a good rewards card. Find one that gives you cash back. This will only benefit you if you pay off the balance every month. I shop at Amazon a lot, so using the Amazon credit card I’m able to make 5% on my purchases. Shopping Comparison Grandmothers weren’t always able to shop around for the best price. Often, there was only one store available to make purchases. With the internet, we’re now able to find the cheapest price available and have it shipped to our door with free shipping. Take a few minutes to compare prices before you make a purchase. It will be worth it. Shopping Apps As I’ve written about in the Resources page, there are many websites that offer free money! I love getting cash back on my online shopping. You can see my list of favorites for shopping. There are also lots of grocery shopping apps that will give you cash back after you make a purchase. Uploading all of your grocery receipts only takes a couple of minutes and it’s worth the cash back. Google Home App Set up, manage, and control your Google Home, Google Nest, and Chromecast devices, plus thousands of connected home products like lights, cameras, thermostats, and more – all from the Google Home app. When you’re away from home, you can turn off features that are costing money. Smart Appliances Smart appliances can be useful because they are more efficient. When you are able to program different features, this permits the owner to save time and money.
