3 Biblical Goals For Children & $250 Christian Book Giveaway

With this new year, many of us are writing our goals. We know that writing down the goals for the year ahead will help us to reach them. We need the push and accountability that written goals produce. It’s important to have goals for our family and children, in particular. If you are a Christian, your goals will include spiritual things that you want to accomplish or improve in. When my children were younger, I liked to write out Biblical goals for my children. These were the things that I wanted to see my children grow in throughout the year. After writing them down, I could then discuss some of them with the child and teach them or guide them in ways that allowed this development to be more likely. Through gentle encouragement, many of these goals were met. One goal that is easy to reach is that of learning more about God. Learning about God can occur by: reading the Bible, attending church, reading Bible story books, watching Bible tv shows or movies, or just talking about God throughout the day. Learning about God should be a natural thing in families: mention His creation when you’re outside with nature, saying a blessing before meals, sharing with children during devotions or letting children tell what they think about God. Another goal is to have scripture memorization become a regular part of their life. There are tons of scripture memorization clubs and programs for kids. Churches have groups like: Awana, RA’s and GA’s, Word of Life Clubs, and many more. These are all good and reward kids for scripture memorization. If your children aren’t in a club, it’s easy to set up a program at home. Parents can select a verse and learn it together as a family. Making index cards or larger pictures of the verse will keep the verse forefront for everyone to see. Families can practice the verse together when they have family time, riding in the car, or waiting for sports or ballet practice. The third goal that is important is to learn to pray and spend time in prayer. Most of us taught our children a simple prayer to say before meals or at bedtime. This encourages the habit of praying. As they grow older, they can learn what prayer really is: talking to God. There are books that teach children to pray, the Bible has many ways to describe prayer (the model prayer/Lord’s Prayer), and they will learn by listening to other people’s prayers. Another way to encourage this is to have prayer journals. They can write down their prayer requests and record the answers to prayer. Each one of these types of schooling will bring a different set of guidelines. Homeschooling If you are homeschooling for the first time, it’s important to have everything ready. There are state guidelines, local papers to send, and curriculum to purchase. There will be a lot of planning and the mom must do all of this herself. The best place to start is to contact your state’s homeschool organization They will have all the rules and regulations boiled down to an understandable amount of information and are willing and eager to help you get started. Most state homeschool organizations will have a guide on how to start and what you need to purchase. Public School or Private School When children are enrolled in public or private school, each school will have requirements for their students. The schools will make contact and provide lists of resources needed. A list of school supplies will be needed based on what grade and class the student is in. School uniforms may be required, and will need to be purchased and ready to wear. Try to purchase enough so that the laundry doesn’t get out of hand. There are bus schedules or car pick up and drop off rules. With the Covid-19 pandemic affecting schools in every way, it’s important to familiarize yourself with those rules and procedures. Children should be introduced in a gradual way to these new policies. Although moms and dads don’t want to create fear, it’s important to stress what will be different this year. Online Schools If your local schools are going to be online this fall, you have probably already experienced this type of school schedule. This time, you will know what to expect. That will make it easier to prepare ahead of time and have the things you need at home. Take time to set up your learning areas in the home and organize everything as much as you can. Have a good home command center ready. Start working with your children to prepare them for the change from summer break to learning at home. Try to to get the entire family on board with working together as a unit will help with stress. Setting up a system of work and rewards is also a good way to make this system a positive experience.
