Even if you’re sharing the holidays with your loved ones on Zoom of Face-Time, you’ll want to look your very best. And, if you’re attending any holiday parties, you’ll want to have a dazzling eye look. This is the time of year to have a little more dramatic eye look.
There are a few things to consider when you are deciding what type of eye makeup you will use for your holiday events.
Your Age
What looks dramatic for a 25 year-old may make a 55 year-old lady appear a little clown-like. So here are some tips to remember. For parties, young ladies will be able to wear a more shimmery shadow palette and older ladies may want to add shimmer with a more neutral shade.
All ages of ladies will want to select a palette with complimentary colors or shades of all one color. Select an eye liner that works with your color palette or just use black for a more dramatic look. Black mascara is always elegant, but a colored mascara will really make your eyes ready to party.
Sometimes it’s better for older women to not use eyeliner on the bottom lid. If you have a lot of wrinkles around the eyes, the heavy eyeliner can just accentuate the wrinkles. For a classic look, just skip the bright colors and use neutrals, but add a little more shadow.

Having the Right Tools
It’s important to have the right brushes when you’re applying eye makeup. Investing in a good set of brushes will be so helpful when you want to create a dramatic look. Some brushes are better for creating angles instead of just a little sponge applicator that comes in your eye shadow kit.
You’ll need the following brushes for basic eye makeup application: basic brush, angled brush, and blending brush. To make your lashes look more full you’ll want to have a lash curler.
To protect your delicate skin on the eye-lids and underneath your eyes it’s important to have a good moisturizer and primer. Having a moisturizer made for the eye area will help to prevent any skin irritation. An eye makeup primer will make your makeup last longer and it just provides a good foundation.
Steps To Apply Eye Makeup
Putting on your eye makeup works better if you follow these steps:
- Moisturize your entire face
- Apply primer and blend
- Apply under-eye concealer
- Apply foundation for the entire face and blend
- Apply your medium – dark eyeshadow shade in the eyelid crease. Brush from outer edge to inner
- Apply a shimmery shade eyeshadow on the lid and blend
- Curl your eyelashes
- Apply eyeliner
- Mascara
- Brows: brush brows in place and use brow pencil to make brows look thicker (or to add shape)
Before the event, you may want to experiment and test out different color combinations to find your favorite look. Then, enjoy dressing up and looking great for the holidays!

Thanks, Lauryn. I’m trying to make myself wear makeup. It’s been easy to skip it during all the quarantine.
